The psycho-analyst, Carl Jung, postulated many theories about
how the human mind works and develops, including the key concepts
of:
|
The Self, ego, persona and shadow;
Collective unconscious, the stages of life and archetypes
(the 'two-million year-old human' in all of us);
The development and 'individuation' of the human psyche into
maturity;
The equilibrium between the conscious mind and the unconscious;
Preferred psychological types - introvert/extrovert, thinking/feeling,
intuitive/sensational (this is the early foundation of Myers-Briggs
Type Indicator - which is broadly used to help people understand
how they and others can be more effective and fulfilled);
The importance of symbols, particularly in dreams.
|
These were applied by Jung in the context of psychotherapy and
are still highly influential. I also find them enormously helpful
concepts in understanding and moving forward with 'everyday' challenges
which my clients face - for example, rising to leadership, self-doubt,
mid-life crisis, loss of energy, hidden resources.

develop from the 'two million
year-old human' which is already inside us all
